The kid came into this world. I have vague recollections of the day. The previous day Mam had been complaining saying she was sure the kid was on her way. Sure enough that evening she went in and early enough that morning Sperm Donor came into our room to annouce that Mam had a baby girl. I was confused as Mam had told us the doctors had removed the girl ovaries when she lost the baby a few years beforehand. Not sure what doctors she was talking to or what she was smoking but the kid was a girl. We went up to visit her that morning and I remember when Mam took her out of the small cradle and held her up to us I was enthralled. Little did I know what a handful she was going to be.
At this moment, she is on her way to Cork with the best mate K for a Slayer concert. She was up at 6 getting ready. She has underwear packed to throw at some guy in the band she likes. She was very nervous about going, a typical titch. What if she got lost, what if she wasn't allowed pick up the tickets. There was an issue with the tickets. The sister K had sent them via registered post. Nearly 2 weeks ago. There was phonecalls to ticketmaster's customer service, cancellation of tickets, faxs , the whole shebang. Finally, the problem was sorted and everyone was happy. Well, apart from the sister who is still fuming with TNT, understandably so. Muppets. The gig starts at 5, so we told her to check into her hostel first. I'm nervous for her...I'm sure she'll be grand, sure we can use the old she's 18 now and well able to stand on her own 2 feet. Someday I'll believe it.

No explanation necessary....No tatoo :O
The plan of getting the kid a tatoo, granted not the one she wanted but a tatoo none the less. She tells us its grand, she'd rather save up for the big one and could she get some comics and a game or 2 instead. Talk about an anti-climax. I was wrecked and so we both shopped for the games, Mammy2 took over and brought them comic shopping whilst I bought the RTE Guide and read about how fab Miriam was, waiting for them to join us for dinner. They originally wanted to go to Bots, but changed their mind to TP Smiths. Always a favorite. It was great being out of work early, as the day had been very busy with my day job. I learned why Perl is so fabulous yesterday and I was well impressed. Yesterday was a tad better then Monday :) I still didn't catch up on all my sleep but the kid said we're the best and she hearts us :) So we're happy. And Mammy2 got me a small Mr Potato head :) :)
We got home, it was time for loud music, bad dancing and champers to celebrate no more school. We say champers, its actually sparkling white wine, but the bottle makes a pop noise and that's all the kid wants. Apparently, I'm funny as well. She's so easy to make laugh. Its a titch thing I reckon, because sometimes Mammy2 and the mate K are looking as us and we have a pain in our side laughing from something silly. I like making people laugh!
We settled on watching Ellen as K hadn't seen it before and we think she's very funny. Not sure if its a teenage thing or not, but the mate K was txting the kid who was sitting in front of her? This is something they regurly do. Txt each other whilst within a 10 yard radius of each other. It has to be a teenage thing.
I was supposed to be up this morning and work on updates for one of my websites. Of course the velcro in the bed at other ideas. Was a tad late, tried to get a cab, but everyone is soluble of a rainy morning so that wasn't happened. I was nearly at my bus stop when I saw the 130 pull up. Ran for it, got on, thought excellent out of the rain. Turns out that whilst the number on the back was 130, the bus was actually one of the 42s. Dropped me about 15 mins from my stop where I had to get another little bus. I was well soaked by the time I got into work and not in good form. However, upon arrival one of my work collegaues, who's aware of my fascination for all things Miriam had brought in a copy of the weekender which had an interview of her and pics. This provoked a discussion about her and another
one of the workmates, who's also a mother claims that Miriam has 2 and a half nannies. How can you have 2 and half nannies? And she reckons she's had betox done as well. I reckon she's just bitter!
I have so much to do today, but having a CBA day. I reckon it was because yesterday was so productive! Perl is very cool, I am going to have to do some research into it. Its on my to do list. Pride plans are coming along really well thanks for a huge amount of work from the team, in particular the mate J. Here's hoping the weather decides to not try and recreate a rainbow and just let the sun shine for the day.

Tuesday's child is full of...
I can't remember, so I'll just say smiles. I've decided to give up on the whole grouchy thing I had going on yesterday, it doesn't really sit well with me. And yesterday was such a pants day, that today will be fabulous in comparision. A combination of stress and tiredness and more tiredness was the mitgiating factors in my mood. To top it all off, there were some hangbags on my website and hardly any of the team were online. So I had to MOD. I very rarely never MOD. For various reasons. The main one being back in the day of the other website I took care of, I was attacked for every post I made, whether I was MODDIng or not. The coven, as they were affectionately known, waited and waited and then launched. Bruised and battered, when I left that place, I vowed never again to get into a situation where I am needed to MOD or that I am scared of what people think about how I do things. But yesterday I had to do something and I wouldn't really be a good team-mate if I didn't do my job. So I MODDed. And then of course came the accusations. And the whole, and its one my 'favourite' words from the fallout from the other site, 'transparency' and lest I forget accountability. They were thrown around so much in the bad old days, I was almost tempted to get them on a t-shirt. When you're an admin or a MOD, you don't make mistakes apparently. This is why I prefer coding. Machines are a lot easier to deal with then people.
Thankfully, things have calmed down and hopefully everyone will be respectful of the other person. By the time I was ready to leave, I was so looking forward to training. I felt sorry for the mate J who was going to partner me. That was the plan. In between all the website madness, I got a phonecall from the kid.
"Hi, Shelly, can you talk to the man who's going to do my lip piercing" This was all news to me. She repeated her query and suddenly I was talking to a random bloke.
"Hi, yeah, Miss Farrell,I have your sister here and she wants to get her lip pierced, I just have to check with a parent, sorry, guardian and all that."
I said fine and then I could hear squeals from her and she was gone. I'm glad I have such a big impact in her life. I left work, cursing the world, got home, fell asleep on the couch and then was late for training, well I thought I was late. I was a briar! The mate J was late, I had to ask this Ukrainian/Russian/Random country to partner me. As I said to the mate J later, you'd swear I asked her to go steady. She looked at me as if I was a line dancing hobbit and nodded. She's obviously been training for a while now judging from her kicks and punches but my word, she's a strange one. I've convinced she's a robot. No emotion whatsoever. No wait, there was a smile at around 7.30. I think it was wind personally. What caused the smile is beyond me because she was looking off into the distance and holding the focus pad to the side, so I was executing one of the more inventive side kicks. No conversation whatsoever, which I wouldn't have minded had she just held her stance so I could get my kicks right. Muppet. Normally when you're partnered, if you hit hard and the other person has to adjust you wait. You don't follow through with a kick. I had to peel myself off the wall at one stage. Instead of stopping and asking how I was, she was lining up for the next one. Ruthless. See what I mean, a killing machine. I now know why she didn't have a partner at the start.
The mate J had a shitty day with work and so we headed to the local for a pint and a rant. She also skipped lunch and dinner so the mighty crisps and peanut selection of the local provided her with some sustenance. On arriving back into the apartment, the kid showed up the mate K's shopping purchases. K's dad gave her 500 euros for her 18th birthday which is on Friday. She bought these boots, which are impossible to describe. I shall take a picture with my new fancy schmancy digital camera and post it up here. Check me out, technology here I come!
Today is her last exam. There are no need for words. Tonight we're bringing her to get a quote for the tatoo and then out to dinner. Of course, with it being her last exam, she was stuck into the books last night. The chemistry book is the book we are most likely to get our money back for , it looks brand new still. But we don't really care at this stage. She got through and did it and I am so proud of her.

The rollercoast nears its end
The kid's final exam is tomorrow. It still hasn't sunk in yet. I'm sure it will when she sets fire to her uniform tomorrow! I've been in a strange mood for the last day or so. I blame the stress of last week. I was a right grouch yesterday and poor Mammy2 and the mate J had to bear the brunt of it. Not sure what was up with me. I should have given myself a slap or 2 and I reckon that would have knocked the crap out of me. Speaking of knocking crap, I am heading training tonight so hopefully that will work off any frustrations that I have :) The poor mate J is accompanying me.
After last weeks bout with the instructor and a random punter, we return to the safety of knowing the partner. I'm feeling ready tired still and out of sorts. I reckon more sleep, less work and lots of potatoes and I will be back to Super Shelly. The pride parade is next Saturday. I have to say I am a lot more laid back then last year. I was climbing walls last year with worry about everything and drummers and silly things that I had no control over..
We are pretty much all set for the parade. Drummers, check. Banner being ordered. No new t-shirts though. Financial commitments for the kid's bday.
Thank god she has decided she's not going to head onto some random pub after she has the party with us, she's staying with us. She had invited a lot of people off the various websites she frequents to some pub, Bruxelles but she's decided not to bother now. I was worried it would be another party like her halloween one which she had when she was 10 or something. She invited all her classmates. Put up ballons and everything and had the party food all laid out. No-one showed up apart from her best mate. She was heartbroken as were myself and Mama Titch. I had visions of this happening again so its a relief that she's sticking with us. It will be better for her and everyone will make a fuss of her. I'm taking it one step at a time, this week she finishes the Leaving Cert, next week she's 18. Her actual bday is on the Tuesday but she's heading to Slayer on that day. She has plans to throw underwear at them. Teenagers. Herself and the mate K are travelling down by bus and then staying over in a hostel. It was a present from the sister in Holland.
Not sure what people are going to get her, I've warned her not to expect presents from everyone. We're bringing her to get her tattoo tomorrow. Yes, we caved! She's been talking about it for so long, we're going to get her a small one. If she likes it, she can save up and get that dragon all over her back. I reckon if she saves over 800 euros she must really want it :)
Having a CBA day today..One minute I'm in great form, the next I'm close to tears. Damn mood swings..

Keep smiling, it makes people wonder what you're up to
Its a Sunday morning and I am up and about and ont tired :O The madness of the stamp out stigma site has calmed down for now. The kid has her final exam on Tuesday. Pride is on Saturday. It never rains but it pours. I am still dealing with the fact that on Tuesday she's finished school. For ever. No more uniforms, no more lunches, no more Oh god its the school ringing. That's it. I don't think it will sink in for a while. I survived the work conference, it was really good fun actually. Took loads of pictures, which I am sure I will tracked down and killed for. I was shattered on the Thursday as the website had taken a lot out of me but once I got out to the hotel and got some coffee into me I was fine. I was on tea break when the kid txted to say she was finished her art history. I rang her quickly and she sounded in grand form. She was chuffed to have it over. She was heading out to the boyfriend's for a few days as she wasn't going to see him for 2 weeks. I'm not sure why she wasn't going to see him, she tells me so much it falls in one ear and out the other sometimes. I'll check with Mammy2. It was strange being away from Mammy2 for a night, we very rarely stay apart. Next month, she's off to Tori Amos in London so I'll have to adjust to an empty bed at home :( She's all excited about it though. I personally can't see why. That woman singing is the equivalent of nails on a blackboard for me.
The thing about work dos is that you get to see a side of your collegaues you don't normally see, espeically when everyone was staying over. People let their hair down so to speak. Some people go a tad over the top though, like some of the women were crossing lines or trying to cross lines with people that they really shouldn't have been doing. I was just embaressed on their behalf. I don't get it. I'm not saying all women are like it, but some. Then again, the men weren't much better. I just sat, sipped my beer , took a lot of pictures and avoided all calls to the dance floor. Eventually though, I did get up and dance for one or 2 songs, my teammates were pouting. The following morning, hangovers were very much present and no-one was in the mood for the 'team activities'.It sounded much too like hard work. My room-mate was throwing up for most of the morning and I didn't see her at all taking part in any of the activities. Unless you class throwing up as an activity.
I got home around lunchtime hoping for bed. Alas not, my website was down and I had 'urgent updates' from one of my clients. I got to bed at 6 and I have never slept so much. 16 hours I think. Needless to say I was bright-eyed and ready to go yesterday. There was shopping to be done :)
Last night, headed to the mate R's house for some dvds. Thankfully she didn't want to go out and party so it was a chilled out night with some takeout and tea from her gay teapot. Don't ask, tis a long story. Today is the big match, the Dublin v Meath replay. Both myself and Mammy2 are shattered so I reckon it will be just heading to the local to watch it. The Winchester ;)

What's the difference between cheese and a lorry?
A letter apparently, according to kid after writing about a lorry when it was actually cheese the person was talking
about in her French Aural. She appears to be happy with it and biology went okay. We are down to 3 exams! Time
flies. She has art theory and history and the dreaded chemistry and then that's it?! All over. For ever. If you listen
closely, you may hear a cheer all the way from Smithfield next week, on Tuesday June 19th to be exact :) Its been
a bit busy here with the day job and the other job. The website that's due to go live on Friday is getting there but
there's a lot of work in it. Nearly finished the coding side of things, need to work through my bug listing. Never again
do I want to work this close to a deadline. Apparently though they think I'm fab. I am shattered. Worked late last night, Mammy2 helped out with images and was up early this morning to do more work before work. Work, work, work. Its like the dwarves sang, Hi Ho :)
Mammy2 was talking to her mammy yesterday explaining that as soon I was finished this project I would help them
purchase a PC. I get a txt from the sister in law asking if I could help out with her PC. Never mind the fact that the brother in law's PC is sitting waiting for me to re-install XP Pro. They installed the OS on top of ME and of course the PC didn't like it.`Its now ignoring the sound card and generally being a nusiance. I reckon by the time Mammy2's parents get a PC, I'll need a switch board to deal with all the technical queries I get from Mammy2's family. Although with her parents, they trust me to order the pc, install whatever anti virus software is needed and hopefully I won't have the issues I had with the other 2. I was supposed to be cooking mash but the kid said she was sick. From eating loads of corn beef no doubt. I didn't mind too much, I had to get straight into work.
I had my review yesterday and I was chuffed. They are really happy with me and my work. A decent rise and a bonus. Happy out. Lots of work in the pipeline as well, so I am hoping that the other work calms down after this project. I can't believe there's big media launch on Friday! I hope it all goes okay as I won't be available. I have to attend a work related conference in Louth all day Thursday and a half day Friday. It should be fun as we have to stay over and there's a meal. Team related activities on the Friday then. The kid got called for an interview for a portfolio course in Dundrum. Apparently, and I quote her "Dundrum is shite!" Considering she's had no other callbacks, she's going to the interview. I explained to her that she has to keep her options open. She's meeting up with the boyf
for a while tonight as she has no exam today. He's buying a kitten and she's delighted. Mammy2 pointed out that he'll have a zoo full of animals and then chances are she'll finish up with him and he'll be left with menegarie of rabbits and kittens. Guys will do anything for her. The twit S was in touch with her asking could he walk her from her bus home one evening. She explained that she lived 5 minutes from the bus stop. I'd love to meet this fella and give him a piece of my mind. I might until I learn a few more techniques in training and then buy stilts so I can appear threatening :)

Day 3, 4 and 5:No sign of panic..
We are in the midst of the exams now and so far so good. No obvious Oh my god, I failed that one. Irish Paper 1 gave her a bit of a fright, she panicked about the essay question and skipped it completly. 170 Marks. I had to control my hyperventilating when I heard this. She said she did fine on the aural and the rest of the paper. I can only hope she passed it. Maths was fine, which I thought would be the other way around. Irish Paper 2 was on the Friday and she did well on that. Overall, I think she's fairly happy with how she's getting on. She's still fairly relaxed about it, spending the whole weekend with the boyf. Oh, yeah, the mate I, has turned into the boyfriend. I knew it was on the cards. She must think we came down in the last shower to think that they are still 'just friends'. Teenagers.
I had Friday and Monday off. Under orders from Mammy2 who was worried about my stress levels. I have to say having a few days off randomly and unplanned like that does wonders for one. Thankfully, my boss is fairly understanding guy and as long as there are no major deadlines or deliverys, he's fairly easy going about leave. I spent Friday sleeping and pottering in the sunshine. Caught up with the mate R that evening as we're not goint out mid-week to be there for the kid and her rants about exams. It was good to talk about something other then the leaving cert and the kid. She was planning on doing a 10km walk the following day. If the txts I received from her the following day are any indication of her general state of well being, then I am well impressed she managed to do the walk at all. She did 5km. Saturday night, the mate J had organised a training session for the new MODS on the team.
We dropped in to say hi and see how they were getting on. They all seemed in great form. Its great to have some new faces on the team, they all bring something completly different to the website. Lots more enthusiasm and energy.
I decided after working all day yesterday, deadlines of Friday were looming, I went training. I haven't been in 2 weeks so I knew it was going to be tough. The mate J said she was going as well, so I had some motivation. And a partner to beat around the place. She was late. I was left with the instructor. By 7.15 I thought I was going to die. The weather was so humid every punch was such an effort. Thankfully, someone else showed up late and the instructor asked him to step in and take over so he could watch the other people training. I had though, great, someone who won't wallop me. Turns out the guy I was partnered with was a fighter. With an incredibly strong punch. Normally when you are partnered with someone, when you're not punching or kicking, you get a rest. With the punches this guy was landing, I spent half the time relocating my shoulder and checking to make sure my arm was still connected to my body. When it came to the winddown, I was sitting near the mate J for sit-ups. I heard her mumble something about this being hell. The mad one cycled to training, hence the reason she was late. As if the training wasn't enough?
I was planning on going again tonight, but the kid wants a potato dinner so I might skip tonight and head tomorrow instead. If I can get all my website work done today. The day job might get busy, I'm not sure yet. I could load up a load of screens and make it look like I am really busy :)

Day 2: Irish and Maths Paper 1
English was alright according to herself. Sylvia Plath came up, she's a depressing poet but the kid loves her for some bizzare reason. Mammy2 had ran over the macbeth quotes with her so we are hoping she gets the honour in that. With Chemistry and French looking weak, I'm banking on the other subjects bringing her up to the pass level. I got home to an empty apartment. Or what I thought was an empty apartment. The kid and the mate were in bed. I've never seen teenagers who sleep so much. I mean, how is it possible. The sun was shining and they were tucked
up in bed. The sunshine was lovely on the walk home, really lifts the mood.
Mammy2 had a hot date with her therapist. I was under orders to cook a potato dinner. Whilst they slept and I had an
quiet apartment, I caught up on some of my website work. Dinner of mashed potatoes was greeted by the kid as if
it was the best thing ever. Well, it is the best thing ever! Perhaps the coke that we also bought her might have made
her feel a bit better. There was discussion of Pinkgate as we like to call it now. The mate's mother suggested she wear a bandana in, so the mate K headed into school today looking like Axl Rose. I expect txt updates from the kid.
She's threatening to do everything and anything to the school if the stop K sitting her exams. Dinner over with, it
was time to go through formulas and questions to do with Maths. The kid has a good grasp of Paper 1 but K was struggling with algebra. I did my best to help her, but eventually left them to it. I was shattered and they had loads of energy, possibly from the coke they were sipping away on.
I heard them head to bed for around 2ish. This would explain the siestas mid day. Irish kicks off first thing, with essays and comprehension. She seemed fairly happy about the two of them. I have put in for leave tomorrow and Monday. I feel like I need a break. You'd swear I was the one sitting the exams :) With a few mad weeks coming up of more exams, work conference and pride, not to mention the kids's 18th, I need all my energy. Its going to be a fun month!

Pink hair = no exam WTF?
One exam down. She was nearly stopped going into the exam. The mate K had dyed her own hair pink and the principle
went mad and said she wasn't going to be allowed sit her exams. They also got onto the kid about her makeup. I think
they are just looking for an argument at this stage. I swear, do these people have nothing better to do then argue with
the students? Don't they realise that they are under enough pressue without making things harder for them?
The mate had to sit in a room on her own and do her exam. She has to re-dye her hair back to a 'normal' colour or she
won't be allowed sit tomorrow's exam. Apparently. What a pile of poop. I understand the need for rules and regulations
to a certain extent. But they are finished school and are sitting an offical state examination?

Day 1 : English
I think I am more nervous then she was this morning. She was last night studying last minute MacBeth quotes. This morning, it was make lunch, force her to have some breakfast. She wanted more money for munchies because she gets starving ya know. We suggested food, she glared at us. I think today will be one of her better days as we have Maths and Chemistry to come. Two of her favourite papers :) Yesterday was a pants day. I was a bit stressed out and you know when something happens, it could be anything, but its the final straw and you want to throw your soother
out of the playpen and pout? That was me for about 5-10 minutes. Then I pulled myself together and got over it. Things get put into perspective really quickly for me. I heard some bad news a week or so again about someone I know, and last night I heard something else which makes me thankful for what I have. Then again I am the periannel optimist so that could have something to do with it. Oh look, life gives you lemons type of attitude :) I guess I just have taken too much on.
The meet went well last night, a good few heads showed up. I was shattered and Mammy2 had suggested I skip it. I think I've only ever missed one offical meet. The mere suggestion was shocking. She wasn't feeling too well and so only stayed out for a while. We raised a fair amount for the pride fund. People are so generous, tis great. No more meets until Pride now. Which will be a big enough one. As usual I have the stress of wondering will people march with us. Well, not with us cause I don't march but carry the banner etc. I'm sure I'm giving myself an ulcer for no reason.

Casablanca rain of a long weekend
It was typical of Irish weather. The minute the weekend kicks in, and a long weekend at that, its as if God is firing
buckets of water from the sky. Torrential rain. With so much on at the weekend, it was of course very welcome. I can't believe this time last year I got so burnt. Of course it is difficult to get sunstroke at the PC. One of my project neglected to let me know the deadline for delivery and txted me on Saturday to ask would the site be ready for Wed. Ah, sure yeah. Everyone knows a website is just a few words and pictures. Worked all day yesterday to get something ready for presentation to the committee on Wednesday. Just as well it was raining, the plan was to go to the maritime fesitval.
I'm still hoarse from the game on Sunday, the Dub's V Meath. The day got off to a mighty start as we headed to meet the mate S and her gf. Enroute to the Porterhouse, we see not 1, not 2 but 5 female guards. In their plain clothes of navy zippy over regulation trousers. They are also so cleverly disguised. It was a good weekend for Shelly things. The previous night, we had a leaving do for one of the team who take care of my website. Sitting in the Morrison, a huge lorry pulls up in the traffic with not 1, not 2 but 3 New Holland tractors. I pointed it out everyone. They mistakenly thought I was indicating some band who were sitting in the corner of the pub. The Stereophonics or something. I have heard of them but I don't think they're famous. And besides, there was a lorry with tractors going
past? A girl has her priorities.
The match was great, lots of hustle and bustle. We headed for a pint afterwards in a 'local' bar and were witness to a brawl. It was the first time I have seen a full on brawl. The mate R pointed out I was from the country and should be well used to it. But brawls down the country are slightly more laid back. You know the situation. Micky Joe said Paddy Joe's wife had a face like a well slapped arse and so Paddy Joe has to hit him a belt. 15 minutes, give or take, later, and they are arm in arm singing the Fields of Atherny. These Dubs were big feckers. It took a few guys to hold one of them back. The back bar was shut, when in keeping the big fella back, tables were knocked over and drinks spilled. Lovely stuff. We left shortly after that. The mate S and her gang were heading out for the night to the Front Lounge but I had to work the following day and so we headed home with the mates S and J. I must befriend a mate with the letter M. Then I could say we headed back to the apartment with S and M :) Just for the crack like :P Watched a DVD, Nina's Heavenly Delights for the 3rd time. Yes, we like the film. What's not to like. Gorgeus Indian girl with a scottish accent, lovely scottish girl with funnily enough a scottish accent and lots of food. The kid was staying over at the mate's house on Friday night and Sunday night. She was heading straight to the wrestling with him from there. She
arrived home yesterday in time for her last Maths grind. She's been complaing of feeling sick but I reckon its nerves. I hope its nerves, if I have to wheel her up in the bed to the school, she's sitting her exams. No word back from the portfolio courses, I got details on 2 more and I must sit her down and get her to apply. We'll be bringing her to get her tattoo in the next few weeks. She can show it off at her birthday celebration then. Mammy2 reckons it will needed to be covered for over a month, I have no knowledge of these things.
I think we're getting her a Pokeman cake. For the hell of it. I can just see her face :) Yes, we are fabulous parents.
